It is a celebration that is lived in the street, where people dress up in colourful costumes and masks, in addition to non-stop singing and dancing!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>But from where and when did Carnaval originate?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The origin of the event is shrouded in the mists of history&#8230; but it&#8217;s believed to have originated with the pagan festivals of ancient Egypt, more than 5000 years ago.\u00a0 From there the tradition passed to the Roman Empire, and then to all of Europe. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carnaval arrived in the Americas with the Spanish and Portuguese colonizers of the 15th century.\u00a0 And, although the church does not admit it as a religious holiday, the reality is that it maintains a strong presence in the predominantly Catholic countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>How is this party celebrated in the Hispanic World?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>Spain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, people start preparing months in advance, as many people create their elaborate costumes themselves.\u00a0 Groups of friends may come together to create <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chirigotas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, humorous songs, which are then sung in local competitions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The party begins before <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuaresma<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with the famous <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lardero Thursday,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and ends on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miercoles de<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cenizas <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Ash Wednesday)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0with the <\/span><em>Entierro de la Sardina <\/em>(the Burial of the Sardine) a procession which culminates in the burning of a large (fake) sardine &#8211; a symbolic &#8220;burial&#8221; of the past, and a chance for all to start anew.\u00a0 In Spain, you&#8217;ll see the events at their grandest scale when you visit:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carnavaldetenerife.com\/\">Santa Cruz de Tenerife<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/lpacarnaval.com\/es\/\">Las Palmas de Gran Canaria<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.andalucia.org\/es\/conoce-andalucia\/arte-cultura-y-tradiciones\/carnaval-de-cadiz\">C\u00e1diz<\/a>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_3936\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3936\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3936 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/spanishworldgroup.com\/hk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/carnaval-cadiz.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"224\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3936\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hombres celebrando en C\u00e1diz (https:\/\/spain.info)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>Latin<\/b> <b>America<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, indigenous cultures have a strong influence on the festivities.\u00a0 Costumes are true works of art, full of colour.\u00a0 Dancing to the salsa and reggaeton rhythms is of paramount importance.\u00a0 During the Carnaval period, anywhere you go you&#8217;ll see people dancing, but especially in: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boliviaturismo.com.bo\/carnaval-oruro-2020.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oruro, Bolivia<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El Callao, Venezuela <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Urvt8b4-0eE\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(video)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnavaldebarranquilla.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barranquilla, Colombia<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that you know a little more about Latin culture, you&#8217;ll need to pick up some key terms to get the most out of your Carnaval experience.\u00a0 What do you think are the key terms you&#8217;d like to know?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><b>&#8220;El Carnaval en el Mundo Hispano&#8221;<\/b><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El carnaval es una de las fiestas m\u00e1s divertidas e importantes del planeta, pero sobre todo en la cultura latina. Adem\u00e1s, se canta y baila sin parar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>\u00bfPero cu\u00e1ndo y d\u00f3nde surgi\u00f3 el carnaval?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lo cierto es que se desconoce su origen, pero los historiadores piensan que puede estar en las fiestas paganas del antiguo Egipto, es decir hace m\u00e1s de <\/span><b>5000 a\u00f1os<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, y de all\u00ed la tradici\u00f3n pas\u00f3 al\u00a0 imperio Romano y despu\u00e9s a toda Europa. Esta gran fiesta popular y de car\u00e1cter l\u00fadico, comienza antes de la Cuaresma, con el famoso <\/span><b>Jueves Lardero<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> y termina el <\/span><b>Mi\u00e9rcoles<\/b> <b>de Cenizas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, con el entierro de las sardinas. Los carnavales m\u00e1s famosos son los de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y C\u00e1diz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En <\/span><b>Latinoam\u00e9rica<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, esta fiesta adopt\u00f3 elementos de las <\/span><b>culturas ind\u00edgenas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Aqu\u00ed, son muy importantes los disfraces, verdaderas obras de arte llenas de color.
